Mandy Ord is a comics artist, an illustrator, a speaker and teacher of comics, and a disability support worker, with a long history of self- publishing. Mandy’s first book Rooftops (Finlay Lloyd) was published in 2008, followed by Sensitive Creatures (Allen & Unwin), published in 2011 and receiving a White Ravens award at the Bologna Book Fair. Mandy’s comics have also been included in a variety of local and international publications including Meanjin, The Age, Voiceworks, Going Down Swinging, The Australian Rationalist Magazine and Trouble Magazine. In 2018 Mandy illustrated her first book for children, Chalk Boy (Allen & Unwin), written by Margaret Wild which was shortlisted in 2019 by the CBCA for picture book of the year.
Mandy’s deep passion for the medium of comics has inspired her to present lectures and workshops to schools, universities, festivals and community groups across Australia and internationally. She has collaborated with theatre companies, writers, musicians, historians, local Wiradjuri language experts and audio units for animations and online content. Her latest book When One Person Dies The Whole World is Over is available through Brow Books.
